Meet the Team: Camilla

Well hello there!

I’m Camilla, the latest intern at Hatch. Having only been here a few weeks, I’m already loving the experience of working in a web-orientated environment, and having a lot of fun alongside the team.

So who am I?

Besides having a huge appetite for cupcakes, I’ve also just finished a three-year degree majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Advertising Creativity at AUT University. Born and raised in Auckland, my parents moved here from South Africa back in the 80s, which is why I have a bit of a funny accent. You know, pork the cor and all that.

When I was young, I went to Corran School for girls and then spent my senior years at St. Kentigern College. It was at school that I realised I wasn’t half bad at art and design, and hence my decision to pursue this as a degree came about. I’ve always had an obsession with drawing and creating wacky things since I could hold a pencil, so naturally the design aspect fell neatly into place. As well as being a crazy arty kid, I also learned the flute, played tennis and hockey, and even briefly dabbled in fencing.

Throughout my degree, I have explored a wide range of design areas, such as illustration, photography, typography, calligraphy, and even bookmaking. I have always adored illustrating, and also have since developed a huge passion for advertising creativity, which was probably helped by watching a little too much Mad Men.

What else do you do?

I’m a bit of a fitness nut so when I’m not designing, I’m usually out running, walking my dog, and doing yoga classes with my mum. As well as physically keeping myself fit, I love learning French, reading enormous books, and frequenting music venues. As well as this, I love to travel and have been lucky enough to explore many amazing places around the world such as New York, London, Paris, Madrid and so on thanks to my dad’s psychiatric conferences. I hope to do even more extensive touring down the track, because once you start it’s pretty hard to stop!

That about wraps it up for me. Now I have to go and eat some more cupcakes.

Until next time!
