I’m Priscilla, the newest intern at Hatch. I’ve been here for a couple of months now and so far it’s been pretty freaking awesome. In my short time here, I’ve learnt so much and I’ve been blessed enough to grow friendships with the crew. Everyone’s super friendly, welcoming and amazingly talented at what they do! It’s been a great environment to work in.
Why’d you choose web?
Why not? It’s amazing how technology works. Every time I code, I am amazed at how it can turn into something so visually and aesthetically pleasing to the eye, as opposed to the code itself. And the fact that you can create a website that can be seen by anyone in the world!?
It’s practically magic.
Think about it, if websites didn’t exist, you wouldn’t be reading this right now. Facebook. What’s that? Youtube. Never heard of it! Life wouldn’t be the same! That goes for a lot of things in the world. But you catch my drift right?
What I love about web is that it’s never stagnant. It’s always changing and there are always new technologies developing. I don’t know about you… but for us (geeks? dorks? cool dudes?) it’s a pretty exciting time when we discover them!
I mean it’s hard to keep up and learn everything. It’s rather impossible to know it all, but that’s the great thing about it! It gives us something to strive for and opportunity to grow, not only as developers but as people.
Cruising through life is cool, but going through a challenge and conquering it - now that’s super cool. Yeah, I’m pretty deep.
Do you have a life outside of this?
Haha kidding! I do. At least I think I do!
It’s definitely important to have hobbies and interests outside your field of work.
If I could be anything else in this world, it’d be a professional vocalist. I love music and I love to sing. Especially jazz. Holla! I’m a try hard at guitar, but at least I try, hard. Have recently been trying to learn how to play the drums which is quite the challenge for the uncoordinated person, such as myself.
I enjoy travelling, experiencing different cultures and eating their foods, especially the more exotic ones. Snails? Wassup! Grasshoppers? Holla!
I volunteer at Waitakere Hospital with Radio Lollipop for Children in Hospital! Definitely check it out if you haven’t heard of it. We’re always keen to bring in new volunteers. The more the merrier!
I’m also a youth group leader for CFC Youth For Christ. It’s a community that has blessed me with so many friends all over New Zealand and even internationally! I’ve also been lucky enough to serve with some of them overseas for the less fortunate in the Philippines! Shout out to everyone in YFC who may be (better be) reading this right now! Y’all are inspiring.
As you can imagine, travelling the world and volunteering while I’m at it, is one of the life goals.
I’m up for trying new things and getting out of my comfort zone. Last year I took up beginner’s sign language and recently took up pole fitness/dancing with Liann! Such random interests, but cool nevertheless. You get to meet new people, learn something different and well, let’s be honest - have something interesting to talk about with others.
Thanks so much for taking time to read my well-crafted (not really) blog post!
Big thanks to the Hatch crew for being an amazing family! Excited to learn more and more from you all! Hope I can do the same for you guys.. somehow!
You guys are the bomb diggity. The bees knees. Awesome blossom. Ran out of rhymes. Word.
